Toward the end of 2022, two teachers from Escola Pia Sarrià in Barcelona who had completed the Illumine professional development programme held workshops for their peers.
Conxi Curto, a high school English teacher, led a workshop based on lessons she had created in the Illumine programme related to teaching students about stress management. Reflecting on the experience, Conxi wrote,
“Taking my case study to my colleagues was not only fulfilling, but a way to test myself and re-evaluate the whole process of workshop design that I had previously done with my students as target audience. It was comforting seeing how this new audience got positively engaged and actively participated in the activities I proposed. It was also a time for reflection and sharing of experiences, which made the whole session a very positive experience.”
Cristina Caballero, a high school Math teacher, ran a workshop related to the use of retrieval practice and distributed practice with her students. Cristina wrote that
“It was a positive experience. My colleagues were very receptive and made my work easier. The fact that I personally applied the strategies with my students gave them ideas to implement them with their students. In my point of view, in these types of training, the sharing of experience is essential in order to develop activities applicable to our students.”
An important aspect of the Illumine professional development programme is having teachers share their work and discoveries made through the programme. We congratulate Conxi and Cristina for their contributions to the teaching community.
