On the 21st of April 2023, a group of 25 secondary education teachers gathered at Tallinn French School to share their Illumine experience or to listen to their peers’ interventions and teacher inquiries. The event completed the six-months long Teacher Professional Development Programme, conducted by Illumine teachers and researchers, where the participants explored and piloted evidence-based teaching practices based on the newest Neuroscience findings.
Participating teachers carried out Teacher Inquiry into the Science of Learning topics, such as Retrieval Practice, Distributed and Spaced Practice, and Reframing Stress Mindsets. The participants in the programme assessed the workshops as the best in their career for the opportunity to not only hear about new practices but to put them into practice through diligent planning, implementation, data-collection and analysis, and reflection. They voiced their willingness to continue with workshops, as these provided opportunities for joint discussion and reflections, peer-support and motivation not to quit. The Illumine ideas have been spreading also through the participants of the previous round of workshops into other teacher training materials: https://digipadevus.ee/opiraam/, and https://elu.tlu.ee/et/projektid/uuriv-oppija.
